Comprehensive analysis of BRCA1/2 germline mutations in high-grade prostate cancer among Arab patients.
Gene / mechanism
Prevalence and clinical significance of germline *BRCA1*/*BRCA2* mutations in aggressive prostate cancer in an Arab population (UAE)
Summary
This study describes the prevalence, zygosity, and clinical significance of germline BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations in Arab patients (UAE) with high-grade prostate cancer, often diagnosed at advanced stages. BRCA2 confers an 8.6-fold and BRCA1 a 3.7-fold increased PCa risk. The data shed light on the mutational spectrum in a population underrepresented in genetic studies.

Analysis
Germline BRCA1/2 variant prevalence data in PCa are largely from European or North American cohorts. This Arab population study adds valuable complementary data and highlights the importance of population-specific risk stratification in a context of expanding global genetic testing.
