Prophylactic nipple-sparing mastectomy and immediate breast reconstruction in Chinese BRCA1/2 carriers: a case series with 45-month follow-up and zero breast cancer incidence.

Series of nine highly selected Chinese carriers of germline pathogenic BRCA1/2 variants (6 BRCA1, 3 BRCA2) with a strong wish for surgery, who underwent prophylactic bilateral nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. Median age at surgery was 36 years, with eight patients aged 40 or younger and eight with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer. Ductal carcinoma in situ was found at pathology in two women. After a median 45-month follow-up, no breast cancer occurred and all patients reported aesthetic satisfaction and markedly reduced anxiety.
